SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23

Advocating the immediate cessation of redlining by insurance
companies and calling on the governor and the insurance
commissioner to promulgate and vigorously enforce anti-
redlining rules.
Whereas, Over seven thousand citizens of southern West
Virginia have requested relief from excessive automobile
insurance rates; and
Whereas, The insurance industry has developed a practice of
redlining by which people in certain areas of the state are
relegated to paying higher rates or are left without a source of
motor vehicle insurance; and
Whereas, Insurance rates should be equal for every citizen
of this state regardless of race, creed, age, sex or residence;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby advocates the immediate cessation of
redlining by insurance companies and calls on the governor and
the insurance commissioner to promulgate and vigorously enforce
anti-redlining rules.
